Spring League Finals

DSC_0770After an exciting regular season, the finals of the Spring Leagues for both hurling & gaelic football were held in Northwood Elementary School in Roswell on Sunday April, 13th 2014. It was fantastic to see so many supporters enjoy the wonderful weather while watching two compelling games. Thanks to Jim Whooley for refereeing both games.

The hurling final featured Fado’s, who dominated the regular season, taking on Ri Ra in a rematch of the previous week’s regular season game. Fado’s won by a score line of 36 points to 23 points as they proved to be too strong up the middle with Rob Kiely in goal, Fiona O’Donoghue at full back, Brian Canavan in midfield and Kieran Cronin at full forward playing some great hurling. The team work of Fado’s during both the regular and post-season marked them apart from the other teams in Spring League.

DSC_0813Shorn of some regular starters, Mac McGee’s took on Meehan’s in the gaelic football final. In spite of playing against a stacked Meehan’s team, Mac McGee’s hung in there until half time as a result of some efficient score taking from a forward line led by Laoise O’Driscoll & Becky Brown. Inspired by Brian Laughlin’s half time team talk, Mac McGee’s showed tremendous hustle in the second half with Ciaran Lee’s hard running at midfield, superb defending from Paul Bradley and some nice saves from Cathi Dugger frustrating a powerful Meehan’s line up led by Alan Corr & James Noonan. The difference in the second half however proved to be the tremendous performance of Laoise O’Driscoll who got the key scores to lead Mac McGee’s to victory by a score line of 43 points to 39.

In conjunction with the Spring League finals, a very successful kids coaching clinic took place on the same afternoon with new children being introduced to the skills of our sports. Well done to Brendan Crowley & Cormac McCormack on the great work being done in this new departure for the club.
